If you’re looking for the perfect spot to spend your golden years with a view, an Alberta town has just made a list of the best small towns to retire in the Rocky Mountains.

World Atlas recently released a list of the seven best small towns to retire in the Rockies, and Canmore made the cut.

Located just over an hour from Calgary, Canmore offers some of the most stunning views of the Rocky Mountains, as well as tons of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

“Canmore, Alta., gives retirees the Banff experience without Banff’s prices. It sits in the Canadian Rockies just outside Banff National Park, with mountain views, a low crime rate, and housing that, while not cheap, costs less than inside the park itself. The Canmore General Hospital covers local health care,” reads the list.

Another draw to the town for retirees or those looking to retire was the Canmore Seniors Association, which runs trips, classes, and a twice-monthly lifelong-learning series, with courses such as ukulele, line dancing, and juggling.

Of course, its proximity to one of the most beautiful destinations in Canada also helped it secure a spot on the list.

“Retirees can explore Banff National Park, ski at Sunshine Village or Lake Louise, or take level walks along the Bow River,” World Atlas continues.

Canmore was the only Alberta destination to make the cut. Other Canadian spots to make this list include Golden and Fernie, B.C.

If mountain towns aren’t really your style, World Atlas released a list of the best places to retire in Alberta, and High River was named a top destination
