Alberta ski resort named the best overall in North America

If you’re looking for the best ski resort in North America, you won’t have to travel far; an Alberta destination just claimed the top spot.

OnTheSnow released its Annual Visitors’ Choice Awards, which are based on ratings and reviews from skiers and snowboarders who evaluate resorts on characteristics such as apres-ski, family-friendly amenities, terrain parks, and more.

Banff Sunshine Village took home the title of the best overall resort in North America for the 2025 to 2026 season.

Home to over 130 marked trails and over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain across three mountains, the resort is known for its long season, reliable snow conditions, and wide variety of runs ranging from beginner to expert.

The resort is part of Banff National Park’s “SkiBig3,” which features Banff Sunshine Village, Lake Louise Ski Resort, one of the largest ski resorts in Canada, and Mount Norquay, which was the first ski area in the Canadian Rockies, dating back to 1926.

“You’ll find everything from accessible beginner chairs to wide-open, above-treeline runs and powder-filled bowls,” the ranking noted.

OnTheSnow also highlighted visitor reviews with skiers praising the resort’s snow conditions, variety and overall experience. 

“One of the most underrated places. I have never been disappointed with the variety of runs and snow coverage. Overall experience – one of the best,” one user said.

“As a family, we’ve skied here many times, and we love it. The snow is always great, and there are lots of different runs and terrains to ski,” another added.

Banff Sunshine Village is frequently touted as an elite ski resort. It’s been named among the top ski resorts for spring skiing and one of the best in the world for beginners.
