Listen up, as we’re about to talk about a subject that’s near and dear to our hearts, and that is sandwiches.

The sandwich is a staple, featuring on the menus of nearly any restaurant or bar you can imagine. However, as a city, Calgary is also home to an impressive number of spots dedicated to the craft.

From some new kids on the block to tried and true favourites that have been around for decades, here are the YYC sandwich shops you need to check out.

Scozzafava’s Deli

Starting as a pop-up which regularly saw major lineups, Scozzafava’s Deli opened its first brick-and-mortar location on 17th Avenue, bringing its stellar sandwiches to the masses.

With nine different handhelds on the menu, from Meatball Parm to Buffalo chicken, Scozzafava’s is a fan-favourite for a good reason. Our pick? The Italian Combo with hot salami, mortadella, hot capicollo and fior di latte.
