Calgary spot named as one of the top 50 honourees at the Chinese Restaurant Awards

We’re in the thick of restaurant awards season, and the latest on the horizon is the Chinese Restaurant Awards, which has just revealed its top 50 honourees from across Canada.

The awards, which were founded in Vancouver in 2008, have shared their long list of honourees ahead of the inaugural Elite 30 Canada Awards, which are set to take place later this month. While the majority of restaurants are from B.C. and Ontario, one Calgary spot made the cut.

Master Beef Hot Pot is the only Alberta restaurant to make the list of honourees. Focusing on Chinese hot pot, the eatery uses local beef for its dishes, sourcing meat directly from Alberta farms.

The Elite 30 Canada Awards has been curated by the newly established Canada Taste Advisors Panel, chaired by founding judge Lee Man, who is regarded as one of the most influential voices in Vancouver’s Chinese dining scene.

The panel is made up of 15 people with diverse backgrounds, including food writers, healthcare professionals, finance professionals, and frequent diners, who will ultimately reveal the shortlist of 30 spots in a Vancouver ceremony on Oct. 29.

While up against stiff competition from across Canada, we hope to see the Calgary restaurant place in the top 30.
