16 upcoming Calgary restaurant openings to look forward to
A lot of us may have been in vacation mode for the last few months, but there’s no rest for the Calgary restaurant scene with a ton of new openings on the horizon.
From international chains to locally owned eateries, our to-eat lists are about to get a whole lot longer this fall and beyond.
So if you’re wondering what’s ahead to look forward to, here are the newest restaurants, bars, and cafes making their way to Calgary.
Jimmy John’s

Widely known for sandwiches served on freshly baked bread with hand-sliced meats and vegetables, popular chain Jimmy John’s is set to open in the University District on Sept. 1.
To celebrate its grand opening, the first 100 guests will receive a free 6-inch sandwich and a 16 oz. fountain drink, and there’ll be plenty of deals on until Sept. 6.

iQ Food Co

iQ Food Co. has revealed that its first restaurant in Western Canada is set to open in Calgary, as the brand has secured a spot at The Core.
If you’re unfamiliar with iQ, it offers a large menu of “nourishing, clean-eating dishes” including veggie and protein-packed bowls, smoothies, sandwiches, soups, and more.

Tony Roma’s
Charlie Hart/Dished
After a vanishing act from Calgary’s dining scene, it appears Tony Roma’s is preparing for a comeback. Signage for the restaurant chain has appeared at 601 8th Ave. SW, the space that Mister M previously occupied.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Tony Roma’s, it’s perhaps best known for its signature baby back ribs, its “world-famous” onion loaf, and classic potato soup. The spot also serves a selection of seafood, steaks, handhelds, and more.

UNA Pizza + Wine – Crowfoot Crossing

The Calgary fan-favourite pizza spot will be opening a new takeout location in Crowfoot Crossing later this year.
Known primarily for its California-style pies, the spot will offer plenty of UNA favourites such as pizza, pasta and salads, from the convenient new takeout location to enjoy at home or on the go.
Wingstop

While Wingstop has just opened its first location at Deerfoot Meadows, another is set to open at CF Chinook Centre. It’s going to have some pretty cool features, including a live DJ booth and modern interior elements to support the high-foot-traffic spot.

Alva
C.A. Restaurant Enterprises
Alva, a new Canadiana-themed restaurant, will be a new 6,000-square-foot space with 50-foot ceilings, featuring a large bar in the centre of the room, as well as lots of cozy seating.
In addition to its indoor dining area, Alva will also be utilizing some of the outdoor space in front of The Edison, with a two-tiered south-facing patio, with some seating at street level and some around four feet above, where there will also be a canopy to protect from the rain as well as the sun.
The spot is slated to open this summer.

Poulet Rouge

Quebec-born quick-service restaurant Poulet Rouge is set to open at CrossIron Mills, with the outpost slated to open in the fall.
Describing its offerings as “modern fusion” cuisine, the spot is largely known for its grilled chicken bowls, which can be customized with a variety of different bases, toppings, and sauces.

Amato Gelato – West Springs

Saint Vincent

Saint Vincent, a new neighbourhood steakhouse, is gearing up to open in Marda Loop, with the spot slated to open this fall.
Its founders have a pretty stacked resume already, as the original owners of UNA Pizza + Wine, and closed but never forgotten spots including Bread and Circus Trattoria, Frenchie Wine Bar and Ox and Angela.

Whisk & Kettle

Hunter
Hunter, Concorde’s new steakhouse concept, is opening its first outpost in Canmore in June, but the restaurant will also be opening in Calgary this fall. It’ll be heading to the Local 522 space.

The Bro’Kin Yolk – Deerfoot Meadows

The Bro’Kin Yolk, a staple for breakfast and brunch, has revealed that it’s set to open its sixth location, with the newest addition anticipated to open in Deerfoot Meadows this fall.
“We can’t wait to break even more yolks in Calgary, serve up brunch, and become part of your community,” the team said in an Instagram post.

Lime’s
After a string of successful pop-ups across the city, Lime’s will be opening a new space on 17th Avenue.
The Miami-style cocktail bar will be serving up Caribbean and Southern flavours, and it will hopefully be opening in the fall.
