New Canadiana restaurant with a two-tiered patio is coming to Calgary next summer

When one door closes, another one opens, and that’s certainly the case for the team behind one of Calgary’s long-standing restaurants.
While we were sad to learn that Murrieta’s in Calgary would be closing its doors next year after a 25-year run, Dished also got the details on a brand-new project that’s on the way.
Ron Salverda, president and CEO at C.A. Restaurant Enterprises, revealed to Dished that the company would be opening an exciting new restaurant at the foot of The Edison building next summer.

Alva, a new Canadiana-themed restaurant, will be a new 6,000-square-foot space with 50-foot ceilings, featuring a large bar in the centre of the room, as well as lots of cozy seating.
“The food program is going to be very Canadian, coast to coast, focusing on casual, fine dining, country, and comfortable food. So very savoury, very hearty,” Salverda explained.
The spot will also offer vegan dishes, as well as dishes that work for different dietary requirements, similar to the University District’s Borough Bar & Grill. Salverda also promised an excellent wine and cocktail list.

“What we’re trying to create here is something for everybody, from a young executive to those people who are retired as well,” he added.
As well as its indoor dining area, Alva will also be utilizing some of the outdoor space in front of The Edison, with a two-tiered south-facing patio, with some seating at street level and some around four feet above, where there will also be a canopy to protect from the rain as well as the sun.

“It’s going to be a great place to watch the [Calgary Stampede] parade go by on Ninth Avenue,” Salverda teased.
Construction on the Alva space is anticipated to begin in December, with a targeted opening of mid-June 2026.
While there’s still some time to wait, we’re definitely excited to see what Alva has to offer.
