4 Calgary restaurants and cafes that recently closed or are closing soon

We may just be a month into the new year, but there have already been a fair few restaurant closures in Calgary.
The restaurant scene is always a fickle one, and throughout January, we saw the loss of a long-standing spot serving Indian food and the OG location of one of the city’s most popular bakeries.

PZA Parlour, a well-known and loved Italian restaurant on Macleod Trail, closed its doors in January after 10 years.
While the team said it was a “difficult decision” to close the restaurant, rising costs were a large factor in the choice not to renew the lease.

Two years after opening on Macleod Trail, Hey Sugar has revealed that it has permanently closed the outpost.
Luckily for Calgarians, the bakery opened a second location at Bankers Hall last year, and it will still be business as usual. “We will still be fully operational while we search for a new space,” the team shared.

Clay Oven, a spot offering authentic Indian cuisine in Calgary, revealed it would be permanently closing its doors after 28 years of service, citing a number of reasons behind the closure.
“Unfortunately, our business has not been able to fully recover since the COVID-19 pandemic. Rising food and operating costs, intense competition, and a shift in customer dining habits have made it very challenging to stay afloat,” the restaurant said in an Instagram post.
