Another vegan sushi restaurant is closing and people are upset

After a four-year run, Vegan Shoku has announced that it will be closing the doors to its current Kerrisdale location with plans to relocate.
“We want to take this opportunity to thank each one of you. To our loyal customers, thank you for embracing us week after week. And to our new customers, thank you for having a curious heart to try a new cuisine,” wrote the restaurant. “Vegan Japanese food is our passion. It has been a wonderful journey to share [the] vegan lifestyle with this community.”

Located at 2260 W. 41st Ave., Vancouver, Vegan Shoku was best known for its oshizushi (pressed sushi), nigiri, and poke, all made with vegan fish.
The restaurant also added that it plans to relocate, but it’s still unknown where and when it will move.
“We hope this is not a final goodbye. We hope to see all of you one day in our new location after we are well rested and recharged. Once again, thank you for having us in the vegan community,” concluded the restaurant.
Vegan Shoku’s final day of business will be Oct. 8, but it is encouraging folks with gift cards to redeem them before Sept. 29.

Many took to the comments of the announcement post to share how much they would miss the restaurant.
“You are our favourite vegan restaurant and our [go-to] places to celebrate important dates. I really hope you open again as it would be devastating to not eat your delicious food again,” wrote one person on Instagram.
“Oh my heart is so sad. You’ve been my favourite restaurant! I visit every time I come to town (I don’t live in Vancouver). I will miss you soooo much! I hope if the timing and circumstances are right, that perhaps you’ll open again.” added another person.
“Nooooo!!!! We love vegan shoku and itās a weekly event for us. We hope you open up somewhere soon!!!” added a third.
This news follows the announcement from COFU Pressed Sushi that it will be closing its Granville Island location and moving its pressed sushi offerings to its current Chinatown outpost. COFU also teased that a new concept by the same team is in the works for the Granville Island location.
