Bike the Dyke

Bike The Dike / Tourism Richmond

What: Enjoy a waterfront bike ride along the shores of the Fraser River! Bike the Dyke provides the opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts of any skill level to catch some late-summer pacific sun while riding along a flat, car-free trail. See scenic green spaces, mountain views, and a range of wildlife, and explore some of Richmond’s unique attractions (including the Richmond Olympic Oval, Garry Point Park, and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery) along the way. And if the biking builds up your appetite, there are plenty of places to grab a bite and something to drink in picturesque Steveston Village.

When: Extend your summer with a September bike ride.
Time: Biking one direction with no breaks takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. However, making stops along the way to make it a full day experience is recommended
WhereBike the Dyke starts about 150 meters west of the Aberdeen Canada Line Station. You can park nearby, bring your own bike along the Canada Line, or rent from one of many U-bicycle stations.

AMS Welcome Back BBQ

What: Friday, September 13th marks the 35th annual Welcome Back BBQ, hosted by AMS events. Vancouver Whitecaps FC Legends & Stars charity soccer match and Vancouver Whitecaps vs Houston Dynamo

What: The third annual Vancouver Whitecaps FC Legends & Stars charity soccer match happens at BC Place prior to the Whitecaps’ MLS match against the Houston Dynamo. Stars include Jacob Tremblay, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Ross Lynch.

What: The main event of UFC Fight Night, scheduled for September 14 at Rogers Arena, will have some star power. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will square off against Justin Gaethje. Other fights include Cirkunov vs. Crute, Heavyweight bout Todd Duffee vs. Jeff Hughes, and Middleweight bout Antonio Carlos Junior vs. Uriah Hall.

Creative Chinatown Moon Festival Pop-Up

What: Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival September 14 to 15 at Chinatown House 188 East Pender Street. From 11 am to 4 pm, festival-goers will enjoy Mid-Autumn themed food, arts, and crafts at the market pop-up on Saturday. Follow that with a special Tang Yuan dumpling making class with the Hua Foundation on Sunday.

Steveston Heritage Experience

What: ​The Steveston Heritage Experience leads you back in time on an interactive walking tour, stopping at four celebrated historic attractions—Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, the Steveston Tram, the Steveston Museum, and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. Along the way, you’ll hear eye-opening tales of yesteryear village life, as told by a chatty local who seems to have just stepped from the streets of 1914. Carefully chosen food and beverage tastings will also be served, offering a taste of life back in 1914—culminating with a popular dish of that day (and today), delicious seafood chowder from local favourite Pajo’s, along with a craft brew from Steveston’s Britannia Brewing.

Cheese and Meat Festival 2019

What: Attendees get to eat their way through local and international fare. Of course, meat and cheese will be the main event, but there will also be accompaniments such as pickled items, chocolates, and coffee up for grabs. As always, beer, wine, spirits, and cider will available at the event.

The Canine Library

What: Vancouver Public Library is giving people the chance to “borrow” a dog from their library as part of a new program that the VPL is hosting in partnership with the Vancouver Park Board (VPB) and the St. John’s Ambulance called a “Canine Library.” St. John’s Ambulance, who assists with the VPL’s Paws 4 Stories program, will be bringing six child-evaluated dogs to the park. The event will last two hours and have 48 open time slots. Signup is on the day of and there’s no library card required.

Terry Fox Run

What: The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event where people get together as individuals, families, and groups to raise money for cancer research in Terry’s name. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of age, athletic ability or socio-economic standing. While the Run does not have an entry fee or minimum donation, all participants are asked to fundraise or make a donation.

Chilliwack Sunflower Festival 2019

What: Stroll through more than five acres of sunflowers in bloom. On-leash pets will also be welcome, with a dedicated drinking area and complimentary pick-up bags on-site. Attractions include 20-acres filled with giant sunflowers, a one-acre show garden with 15 varieties of sunflowers, photo-ops with swing sets, lawn games, local food trucks and more.

The Price is Right Live

What: The live edition of one of North America’s longest-running game shows is coming to Vancouver and you could be their next contestant. This September, The Price is Right Live will be coming to Hard Rock Casino for several live shows. Contestants will get the chance to play games like Plinko, Cliffhangers, The Big Wheel, and the fabulous Showcase. Contestants can win cash, appliances, vacations, and possibly even a new car.

Surrey’s Heritage Rail

What: Take a trip back through time by riding Surrey’s Heritage Interurban rail car. The 50-minute trip goes from Cloverdale to Sullivan and back. Then check out the interactive exhibits and explore the Discovery Centre.

Whistler Village Beer Festival 2019

What: The Whistler Village Beer Festival features over 70 breweries and more than 140 craft beers and ciders, food trucks, and plenty of live music. There will also be food pairing dinners, unique cask nights, beer yoga, forged axe throwing, and a two-day main event at Whistler Olympic Plaza.

Richmond Sunflower Festival 2019

What: The first-ever Richmond Sunflower Festival will feature 20 different varieties of sunflowers and dahlias on over eight acres of land for you to enjoy, with multiple #instaworthy moments. Take a train ride through the vineyard and enjoy a tractor ride to the sunflower fields. You can also enjoy a cool drink or ice cream at the vendors at the festival, including a meal on weekends at the festival’s food trucks.

Vancouver Fringe Festival 2019
