'New kind' of vending machines open at Metro Vancouver SkyTrain stations
Over the past couple of years, TransLink has been partnering with companies to install vending machines at several Metro Vancouver SkyTrain stations, and new ones have been installed at two additional stations.
Some of the recent machines include a coffee machine and orange juice machines. There used to be a vegan snack vending machine at New Westminster SkyTrain Station (RIP).
There was once even a sushi vending machine!
Today, TransLink unveiled its latest addition, a machine in partnership with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB). The machine at Patterson is installed right next to the Pepsi vending machine, which may entice consumers to choose a healthy juice instead of a sugary soda.

GVFB calls it a “new kind of vending machine,” and it is the result of products created through the food bank’s own food-preservation work.
The food bank says that the first two machines have the potential to be followed by additional Metro Vancouver SkyTrain station locations.
Daily Hive Urbanized checked out the new machine at Patterson, and some of the healthy offerings include juice, apple fries, and pear fries.
Other unique vending machines Vancouver has seen over the years include an art vending machine that operated at the Garden Court of the Bentall Centre. Metrotown even had its own air balloon vending machine at one point in time.
At one point, an opioid vending machine was pitched in Vancouver as part of the MySafe project. Some of these machines are still in operation in the Downtown Eastside.
Alberta actually got its own pizza vending machine in 2021.
In Japan, vending machines are extremely popular, with some machines even able to deliver you piping hot ramen noodles.
