Two longstanding Vancouver restaurants announced closures this month

It’s always hard to say goodbye to a restaurant, but it hurts even more when those restaurants have been around for so many years.

We were thankful to see that the number of restaurant closures appears to have slowed down this month, but we are heartbroken that among the two closures, one is a decade-old downtown restaurant and the other is a 22-year-old bubble tea shop.

The most recent closure announcement of the bunch is Burgoo’s Burrard Street location, which shared on May 21 that it will be closing its doors this month.

“After 10 amazing years on Burrard Street, we have made the difficult decision to close our Burgoo Downtown location,” said the restaurant.

BurgooĀ is best known for its selection of homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, pot pies, mac and cheese, and overall good vibes and relaxing atmosphere.

Its final day of operation at this location will be May 29. In March, the restaurant chain also closed its North Vancouver outpost. Luckily for fans, its Mount Pleasant and original Point Grey locations remain open.

As for the other Vancouver spots that announced a closure, Pearl Fever UBC officially closed the doors to its only location in the city.

ā€œThis was not an easy decision for us. We explored every possible option to continue, but due to factors beyond our control, we ultimately had to move forward with this difficult step,ā€ said the bubble tea shop.

Pearl Fever operates multiple locations throughout Metro Vancouver, including in Surrey, Langley, and Coquitlam. Its UBC location was its only outpost in Vancouver.

“We have been proud and honoured to be part of the UBC community since 2004, and we are truly thankful for the countless memories, friendships, every visit, and every cup shared over the past 20+ years,” added Pearl Fever.

While the final day to grab a bubble tea at its UBC location was May 17, Pearl Fever did add that its drinks will continue to be available at Da Bao by UBC Food Services at the IKB building, with an expanded menu launching in September.
