Newly opened Vancouver restaurant Osteria Otto is asking for community support after a fire on Wednesday night forced it to close.
“After more than a year of planning, building, and dreaming, Ignacio, Joe, and Daniel opened Osteria Otto at 8th and Main this past December. For three wonderful months, we had the privilege of serving this community and seeing our vision come to life, but this chapter as we knew it has come to a sudden and heavy end,” wrote the restaurant on Instagram.
The team shared that the fire had broken out in the unit above the restaurant and had assured everyone in the restaurant at the time that it was safe. However, water damage from the firefighting efforts has left the restaurant âcompletely destroyed.â

âAfter almost two wonderful years of getting to know you, weâve made the difficult decision to close our Purebread West 4th location on 29th March 2026,â wrote the bakery. âWeâre incredibly grateful to this neighbourhood and to everyone who stopped in for coffee, pastries, and a chat. We loved serving you all. Some once a week, some once a day or even just as a once off!â
Purebread got its start as a small stall at the Whistler Farmers Market 15 years ago. Since then, it has opened eight locations across Metro Vancouver and the Sea-to-Sky.
The bakery also shared that the baristas at its West 4th location will still be around at other Purebread locations.

After operating for less than a year, Vancouver restaurant Handson has announced it will be closing its doors.
âHandson was built on a simple idea â fire, steak, and frites done right. No distractions, no excess, just a focused experience where quality speaks for itself. It was always about keeping things honest, letting ingredients lead, and creating a space where people could come together over something simple, but done with care,â said the restaurant.
âOver time, this concept became part of so many nights â shared tables, familiar faces, bottles opened without occasion, and moments that didnât need to be anything more than what they were.â
Handson first opened its doors in August 2025 and was a favourite among many, including visiting celebrity Hudson Yang.

Best known for its selection of unique espresso and tea creations, Lumiere also serves an assortment of baked goods as well.
Despite the closure announcement, it has assured fans that this is just goodbye for now.
âWeâre taking some time to reset, improve, and work towards coming back stronger. We donât have an exact timeline yet, but we are doing our best to come back,â wrote Lumiere.
