11 things to do in Vancouver this week: July 13 to 19

With Vancouver’s forecast finally calling for sunny skies, it’s time to get out and enjoy the third week of July — while physically distancing and following health and safety protocols, of course.

From Vancouver’s favourite theme park to the berry picking and festivals, here 11 events to check out this week around the city.

Playland

What: Playland is back for summer, with 12 rides and attractions including The Flutterbye, Sea-to-Sky Swinger, and Pacific Adventure Golf. In addition to enhanced cleaning measures, visitors are also asked to use hand sanitizer before and after each ride. Masks will also be required while in line for a ride and on the ride, with Playland providing visitors with a complimentary souvenir face mask.
When: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Time: 10:30 am to 2:30 pm; 3:30 to 7:30 pm
Where: Playland — 2901 E Hastings St Vancouver
Admission: Tickets to playland are $29.50 and parking is $10; children under the age of three enter for free with a paying adult.

Digital Impact Festival

What: Digital Impact Festival is a Global Transformative Charity Festival unlike any other. The event features fully animated 3D stages, Zoom dancefloors, virtual worlds to explore, Virtual Reality for VIPs, 100+ renowned artists like DNMO and Taiki Nulight, as well as over 50 transformative workshop facilitators like Evan Carmichael. All proceeds fund great causes such as bail funds for people wrongly prosecuted for protesting equal rights (Act Blue), clean water for First Nations communities (True North Water), Canadian mental health (CMHA), and more.

What: With FVDED in the Park cancelled for the first time, organizers wanted to keep fans entertained by instead hosting a virtual four-hour concert. Saturday’s show will be hosted by BBNO$ with performers Felix Cartal and Lights, Manila Grey, The Funk Hunters, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Juelz, Cotis, Boslen, Bains, Rude Nala.
