New Spanish grocery store and sandwich spot just opened in Vancouver

After reporting on it at the start of the year, the Spanish grocer and sandwich destination Ultramarinos Pepe has officially opened its doors.
“Hola, Vancouver — we’re open. Your new Spanish corner shop is now open,” wrote the store on its Instagram.

The new South Cambie store explains its concept simply with one sentence: “Eat what you can buy, buy what you can eat.”
“In Spain, an ultramarinos is a small neighbourhood shop filled with everyday essentials stacked on high shelves: conservas, olives, bread, sweets, charcuterie, and all the simple things people pick up on their daily routine. But an ultramarinos is more than a store,” wrote Ultramarinos Pepe.
Ultramarinos Pepe also operates as a small bocadillo shop, serving sandwiches made with the ingredients that you can find on the shelves, from olive oil to chorizo, jamón, cured cheeses, and bread. That means you can enjoy a sandwich here, and then buy the exact same ingredients to make it again at home.
As for other grocery items available, you’ll find a selection of pantry staples alongside the aforementioned sandwich items.
“These are everyday products in Spain, brought here in a way that feels simple, familiar, and easy to explore. It is Spain next door in the most literal way,” added the store on its website.
