You may recognize the name Vadapav Mirchi by Geeta if you’ve been dining around New Westminster the past couple of years. The restaurant opened as a delivery and takeout-only operation five years ago before debuting its dine-in restaurant back in 2023, with its claim to fame being that it was Canada’s only Maharashtrian restaurant.

Now, the restaurant is preparing to expand with the opening of its first-ever Vancouver location.

“After 5 incredible years building a devoted community in New Westminster, we’re bringing these unique flavours to the heart of Vancouver,” the restaurant shared with Dished.

Located at 2975 Cambie St., the restaurant is opening in the former home of Tropika, which operated for 25 years.

Everything on the menu is vegetarian, including the restaurant’s namesake dish, the Vadapav, a deep-fried potato dumpling in a bun, a common fast-food dish from the region.

Other menu items include Pav Bhaji (a mixed vegetable curry served with toasted bread and butter), Kothimbir (a savoury crisp snack made with gram flour, coriander leaves, peanut, sesame seeds, and spices), and Oli Bhel (a Mumbai street-style snack made with puffed rice, sev, coriander, papdi, and tamarind chutney).

The restaurant shared that you can expect the same authentic family recipes from founder Geeta Batule’s village in Maharashtra and the “same dishes you can’t find anywhere else in Canada.

“We’ve grown from a pandemic startup to 4.7 stars with 2000+ reviews, and Vancouver felt like the natural next step,” added the restaurant.

Vadapav Mirchi by Geeta officially opens its doors on June 1, operating daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
