Metro Vancouver's newest bar is located inside of a donut shop — here's what to order

Vancouver is definitely a hot spot when it comes to excellent bars. Just look at the most recent North America’s 50 Best Bars list, revealed in April 2025, which features three Vancouver bars. But just because the city has some excellent spots to grab a drink, it doesn’t mean you won’t find any outside of the city.

Introducing Sweet Talk Bar, the latest spot for late-night sips and share plates.

During the day, the spot operates as the much-loved Sweet Talk Donuts, where you can find a selection of expertly crafted donuts, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. But once it hits 6 p.m., the donut cases are cleared, and the daytime cafe transforms into the new bar concept.

Sweet Talk Bar is all about offering an elevated bar experience while keeping things simple and easy to understand, something that co-owner Juan Perello told us was very important to him from the start. He wanted to make sure everything at Sweet Talk was approachable for the Port Moody community, especially for those who don’t frequently hit up bars.

This goes right down to how the menu is formatted, with each drink listing including a description of the ingredients, what you can expect to taste, and also a little picture depicting what kind of glass it’s served in.

Speaking of drinks, many of Sweet Talk’s cocktails are made with by-products that the cafe produces throughout the day. Cascaras (coffee bean skins) are used in its Call Me Old Fashioned (Sweet Talk’s version of an old fashioned featuring Bearface whisky, Flor de Caña 12yr, pandan, cascara, Gomme, and cocoa bitters), and the tops of strawberries are used to create its House Martini.

During our visit, we tried the neon green Nitro Japanese Slipper — a tangy and fruity cocktail from the 80s — and the Joanie Loves Chachi, a tropical drink featuring pineapple-infused El Gobernador pisco, Espolon Blanco tequila, strawberry, and coconut cordial, all force-carbonated. Instead of your standard bar snack of pretzels, we were served a small bowl of popcorn.

You’ll also find some special zero-proof offerings, each as thoughtfully crafted as the alcoholic version. The Instant Crush, featuring NOA Garden “gin,” non-ale plum wine, lemon verbena cordial, calamansi, and egg white, was a refreshing hit at the table.

But stellar cocktails aren’t the only thing on the menu; you’ll also find a curated list of small bites and share plates. Highlights of the night included the Charred Broccoli served with sesame sauce, chili oil, toasted sesame, and scallions, as well as the Wedge Salad, which, in addition to being loaded with smoked gouda and bacon, has a dressing courtesy of one of Perello’s friends from his time at Published on Main.

One of the most memorable dishes of the night, however, was the Cheeseburger Tartare. Made with top sirloin covered in cheddar, pickles, onion relish, hickory sticks, and sriracha aioli with a side of chips for scooping (who knew hickory sticks and potato chips were such a winning combo?).

And don’t worry, as the name implies, Sweet Talk has got you covered when it comes to dessert. While you won’t find any of its beloved donuts on the late-night menu, Sweet Talk is serving a killer Boozy Banana Pudding. Ingredients include spiked banana custard, vanilla wafer, and whipped cream.
