Vancouver's first gyukatsu specialty restaurant is now open

Vancouver’s dining scene just got a brand-new spot to check out, and it’s the only restaurant of its kind in the city.
Kuro Katsu, which officially opened its doors on Oct. 3, claims to be the first gyukatsu restaurant in Vancouver.
Gyukatsu is a Japanese dish that features a beef cutlet that is breaded and deep-fried, and typically is served medium rare. This results in a crispy exterior and juicy interior.
“At Kuro Katsu, we redefine the art of katsu with a bold, modern twist,” wrote the restaurant. “Our gyukatsu and signature katsu, crafted with premium ingredients and perfected frying techniques, deliver a uniquely deep flavour and crisp texture that set us apart.”

While its signature gyukatsu is definitely the star on the menu, you’ll also find other katsu favourites like chicken katsu and silver brick cheese katsu (stuffed with a brick of mozzarella wrapped in a pork tenderloin, breaded, and deep fried).
Plus, you’ll find a selection of tasty deep-fried appetizers too, like shrimp tempura and a chicken tender rice ball salad, as well as karaage and udon noodle bowls.
