Top Vancouver restaurant for clam chowder opens new location with exclusive dish

There are few better combinations than clam chowder and bread bowls, and now one of Vancouver’s top clam chowder restaurants — Jack’s Chowder — will be bringing its soup in a bread bowl to another part of the city.

Jack’s Chowder has recently expanded to Bentall Centre, and the location has officially opened its doors.

ā€œHonestly, it is beyond surreal that our little dream is expanding. This location fell into our laps and we couldn’t say no,ā€ shared the restaurant.

The idea for Jack’s Chowder first came about due toĀ ongoing strugglesĀ that Shameless Buns faced at its brick-and-mortar location (don’t worry, the Shameless Buns food truck is still going strong).

Instead of closing the location, owners Corvette Romero and Matt Brennan decided to transition the space into Jack’s Chowder. What started as a simpleĀ weekend pop-upĀ to test the waters eventually turned into a full transformation into a clam chowder shack.

“When we started Jack’s, just over a year ago, we had no idea what to expect. We basically started Jack’s as a Hail Mary to save our business and we couldn’t be more elated with how everything has gone. It’s pretty surreal to be opening a second location in this short amount of time. We are beyond grateful for the opportunity from the Bentall Centre,” shared Jack’s.

The star on the menu is, of course, clam chowder. While Jack’s pays homage to the dish’s origins, the restaurant elevates the classic clam chowder with lobster oil and bacon ends from Crack On. Plus, it’s of course served in a sourdough bread bowl.

If you’re not feeling chowder, we’re also quite fond of Jack’s fish sandwich, which it calls a ā€œkind of a grown-up version of the Filet-O-something.ā€ It features beer-battered cod, B&B pickles, American cheese, and Jack’s tartar sauce all on a tasty bun.

This new location promises to tailor more to the lunch crowd, with the addition of combos to the menu alongside a Bentall exclusive item: Jack’s Tacos.

These tacos feature beer-battered fish or shrimp, pineapple salsa, elote mayo, cabbage and mango tamarind hot sauce.

You can visit Jack’s Chowder at Bentall Centre Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., though the restaurant did share that these hours could change, so be sure to check its Instagram for any updates.
