'I go every Saturday': Finn Wolfhard shouts out his favourite Vancouver cafe

Over the past couple of months, plenty of celebrities have been seen dining across Vancouver, including actress Heather Graham, the Jonas Brothers, and John Mulaney, to name a few. However, it’s one thing to have them be seen enjoying one of the many great restaurants in the city, but it’s a totally different thing when they give a shout-out to their favourite spots on an international stage.

Vancouver-born actor, musician, and director Finn Wolfhard (Stranger ThingsItGhostbusters: Afterlife) appeared on “Last Meal,” a YouTube series by Mythical Kitchen, where celebrities eat what they would want for their “final meal” while being interviewed by host Josh Scherer.

During the video, Wolfhard enjoyed a “local” ballpark burger with everything on it except tomato, salt and vinegar chips, a pint of Guinness, tuna sashimi tacos, a California roll, Chubby soda, a Skor Blizzard from Dairy Queen, and cinnamon buns from the popular Vancouver cafe Grounds for Coffee.

“Shout out Grounds for Coffee, I go every Saturday,” said Wolfhard when presented with the cinnamon buns.

“I used to go to Catholic school, and every time after we go to mass, we would go and pick these up as like [a] thanks for forcing yourself to come to mass with your parents kind of thing,” he explained.

But Wolfhard wasn’t the only one to give a shout-out, as the cafe took to Instagram on Tuesday to return the callout to the actor and director.

“A BIG shout out and kudos to one of our long-time customers, Finn Wolfhard, who has been coming here since before his days on the big screen,” shared Grounds for Coffee on Instagram with a clip from the episode. “We’re so grateful for everything that you do for the community!”

In addition to being known to frequent some great restaurants in Vancouver, like JJANG Korean BBQ & Social House, Afuri Ramen, and Wak Wak Burger, he was among some of the investors to rescue Vancouver’s art-deco Park Theatre from closing, alongside other filmmakers including Chris Ferguson (Backrooms, The Young People), Osgood Perkins (Longlegs, The Monkey), Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck), Zach Lipovsky (Final Destination Bloodlines, Freaks), and Academy Award winners Sean Baker (Anora, The Florida Project) and Samantha Quan (Anora, Red Rocket), among many others.

“Thank you to everyone who continues to work hard to build and create community in this city,” added Grounds for Coffee.

Many fans took to the comments to share how much they liked Wolfhard as well.

“So nice to see those kids grew up in the spotlight but are such genuinely lovely people now with good heads on their shoulders,” said one user.

“A great advocate for the city and a city favourite! Never change, Finn,” said another.

“100 per cent agree with him. This would be my final dessert… they are the best Cinnamon on the planet, along with a Gideon’s chocolate chip cookie,” added a third.

You can find Grounds for Coffee and its Wolfhard-approved cinnamon buns at 2565 Alma St. and at 2088 Commercial Dr. in Vancouver.
