After opening its first location in Metro Vancouver just last year, a Korean donut brand has shared that it plans to open its fifth location in the area in the former space of a now-closed, over-decade-old cafe.

At the beginning of July, Andrew’s on Eighth closed its doors after a 13-year run.

“For 13 years we’ve made this our home and have made such wonderful relationships with so many of you! We loved watching your families grow and also getting to know so many of you. It has meant so much to us,” shared the cafe. “We spent much time going over our decision but we feel deep down that it’s the right time. We’re sad but also know that there would never be a right time. We’ll miss every last one of you!”

The cafe, located on the corner of E 8th and St Andrew’s Ave. in North Vancouver, was a community staple, serving up coffee, baked goods, and holding community events. At the time of its closure, it was unknown what would eventually fill the hole its departure left in the community.

Fast forward to today, and we have learnt that Goldie’s Donuts is planning to open in the space.

“Get ready, North Vancouver! āœØā€” the wait is almost over!” shared the donut shop on Instagram. “Goldie’s is bringing its signature soft, 24-hour fermented brioche donuts and specialty coffee to your neighborhood.”

Goldie’s Donuts opened its first Metro Vancouver location just last year inĀ West Vancouver. Here, the donut shop was serving up fluffy brioche donuts fermented for 24 hours with delicious cream fillings and glazes, all made in-house. Later, Goldie’s opened a Langley location, drawing lines and selling out during the first weeks of opening.

Recently, the brand shared with Dished that it also plans to open a location in Vancouver proper as well.

According toĀ Goldie’s Instagram, it shared that each flavour of donut is created at Goldie’s HQ, where one of its ā€œDonut Professorsā€ spends countless hours developing new creations. Some of these flavours include strawberry milkshake, vanilla custard cream, custard corn cream, cronuts (croissant donuts), mango passionfruit glaze, and many more.

As for the name, it was inspired by the team’s beloved golden retriever.

“Just like the happiness you feel when greeted by a golden retriever, we want every visit to Goldie’s to leave you with a smile,” wrote the donut shop on its website. “Our cozy interior and carefully crafted menu reflect this philosophy, creating a space where warmth and happiness are at the heart of everything we do.”

An exact opening date for Goldie’s North Vancouver location has yet to be announced.
