Din Tai Fung announces opening date for first Canadian location in Vancouver

After much speculating, the day we have all been waiting for has officially arrived: we have an opening date for Din Tai Fung’s highly-anticipated Vancouver location.
For those not in the know, Din Tai Fung was founded in 1972 and now has more than 170 locations in 14 countries around the globe.
The eatery is famously known for its Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Wontons, Cucumber Salad, and its signature spicy sauce.
On top of those tasty eats, the restaurant boasts many Michelin nods around the globe, too.

When it comes to the space, Din Tai Fung told Dished that this location is inspired by Chinese Zen gardens, with a similar colour palette and atmosphere that can be found at its Glendale and Bellevue locations. This aesthetic goes right down to the plant life, with a faux bonsai set in the main dining area and the rock garden that is planned for the entrance and host area.
The space itself is 16,412 sq. ft. and will have a total of 311 seats. Most of these will be found in the dining room with 150 seats, followed by its large patio with 88 seats. There will also be 27 bar seats and 46 seats in its showcase dining room.
Upon entering, guests will find the dumpling expo kitchen, one of Din Tai Fung’s claims to fame. This is where all of Din Tai Fung’s dumplings are made and a window where guests can view the dumpling-making table and the hands of the chefs making these delicious creations.
Din Tai Fung’s grand opening is scheduled for May 5, 2025, and reservations are now available online. However, eager foodies can also visit during its soft opening from April 24 to May 4 to try out a curated, limited menu before the big opening day (reservations for this are also available online).
