'Canada's 100 Best' gives shoutout to four beloved Spanish restaurants in Vancouver

We already know that Vancouver is home to some of the top Spanish restaurants in the country, but it’s nice to be reminded every so often. So when Canada’s 100 Best released an article detailing how to have the ultimate Spanish feast across Canada, we knew at least one Vancouver restaurant had to make the list. Lucky for us, it ended up being four.
“For an ultimate Spanish feast, we reviewed 15 certified Spanish restaurants and purveyors across Canada. The Restaurants from Spain and Colmados from Spain certifications, programs from ICEX — the Spanish government agency behind Foods & Wines from Spain and the international promotion of the country’s food, wine and gastronomy — recognize businesses around the world offering authentic Spanish cuisine and products that meet their quality standards,” wrote the publication.
“The result moves from hand-carved jamĂłn IbĂ©rico de Bellota, Espárragos Blancos and Pan con Tomate, to Beef Carpaccio and Pinchos, followed by a classic Bikini Sandwich and Tortilla de Patatas, Croquetas, Vieira Gratinada, and Pisto Andaluz; on to Pata de Pulpo con Sobrasada, Gambas al Ajillo and a traditional Valencian paella; and finally, queso Manchego and TurrĂłn.”

So, Canada’s 100 Best compiled the ultimate Spanish feast from Vancouver to Montreal, highlighting the best restaurants and what you should order from each.
The publication says to start your Spanish feast, folks should head to Vancouver with ARC Iberico Imports’ Hand-Carved JamĂłn IbĂ©rico de Bellota.
Following that, our lovely city did get some shoutouts for its Spanish tapas bars. Specifically, CĂłmo TaperĂa’s (201 E. 7th Ave., Vancouver) Bikini Sandwich, which Canada’s 100 Best described as a “playful interpretation of the classic Catalan toasted sandwich,” got a shoutout, while Bodega on Main’s (1014 Main St., Vancouver) Pisto Andaluz — a pisto of stewed peppers, tomatoes, squash, and onions — also received praise.
There was so much surprise when Vancouver’s Casa Molina (2211 Manitoba St., Vancouver) made the cut, but we were surprised to see that instead of its world-renowned paella (and we mean it when we say world-renowned; this dish was named the second best in the world a couple of years back), Canada’s 100 Best mentioned its Pata de Pulpo con Sobrasada. The dish consists of charred Spanish octopus with pieces of spice and salted cured meat (a.k.a. sobrasada), a spreadable cured sausage from Mallorca, and is seasoned with pimentĂłn.

“The dishes may come from kitchens across Canada, but together they capture something distinctly Spanish: a feast that’s never really about any one plate, but everything that happens around the table,” concluded Canada’s 100 Best in the article.
