For many people, Christmas Day is a chance to spend time lounging at home with their families. But for those looking to escape the house and do something a little different, there are a number of businesses that will be open across the city.
From ski hills and parts of the mall to cannabis and liquor stores, here’s whats open in Edmonton on Christmas Day.
Transit service will have an adjusted schedule during the holidays, with some routes operating on a reduced schedule on Christmas Day.
For those still requiring support during this time of year, essential social services will also stay open for the holidays.
Cannabis and liquor Stores
Thanks to changes from Alberta’s Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis agency (AGLC), you can now buy cannabis and liquor on Christmas Day across Alberta.
Some cannabis and liquor stores could be open on December 25 this year, but you may have to double check with individual stores, as the Christmas Day opening is optional.
Public skating rinks
Some public outdoor rinks will be open on Christmas Day, including Alberta Legislature grounds, Hawrelak Park, Victoria Park Iceway Rundle Park Iceway, and Strathcona County‘s outdoor skating trail. For a full list of hours, check here.
West Edmonton Mall
Although it may be too late to buy Christmas gifts, parts of West Edmonton Mall will be open on Christmas Day. The waterpark, amusement park, aquarium, bowling and escape room, adventure golf, and mini golf will be operating from noon to 5 pm.
Most Landmark and Cineplex Theatres around Edmonton are open on Christmas Day.
