While government offices will be closed over the holidays, the government is reminding Albertans that essential social services will remain open.

The holidays are a time of celebration and spending time with loved ones, but the season can also bring added stress and challenges for many people who may still require support.

“It’s important Albertans know help is always available. You are not alone. During the holidays, resources that support the health, safety and security of Albertans will continue to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Community and Social Services in a release.

Government offices are closed from December 24 to January 1 and reopen on January 2,  while programs and resources that impact the health, safety and security of Albertans will remain available over the holidays.

Some of the services that will stay open include crisis helplines for addiction, bullying, child abuse, mental health, family violence and income support, court and correctional facilities, domestic violence safer spaces contacts, and more.

A full list of all other available services and resources is available online.
