Camp under the stars at Alberta Parks' cosy winter cabins

Dec 20 2019, 6:33 pm

Alberta Parks is offering cosy and intimate winter cabins this holiday season, so you can camp under the stars in a snowy winter wonderland.

Winter can be a dreary time for many. Without the merrymaking and holiday festivities of Thanksgiving and Christmas, it seems like there’s really not much else to do when the days are short and the nights far too long, than curl up in a cosy blanket and hibernate until summer’s back in Alberta again.

However, we have a solution for you. Or more specifically, Alberta Parks has a solution for you. There’s no need to wait until spring to go camping.

These winter camping cabins are complete with all the essential amenities you need to have a good time — beds, fridges, stoves, and even cutlery. Situated in select provisional parks, these comfortable camping units are just what you’ll want to retreat to after an afternoon of hiking winter trails, cross-country skiing, or ice-fishing.

Environment and Parks/Press Release

“Winter is a great time to experience the full range of what our provincial parks have to offer and the holiday season offers many recreation and other opportunities in our provincial parks,” said Jason Nixon, Minister of Environment and Parks, in a press release.

If these cabins don’t suit your fancy, Alberts Parks also offers year-round, winter campgrounds and backcountry camping for folks who would rather use their own tent, trailer, or RV.

Winter campers should note that services at these cabins are limited, however, and do not include running water.

Winter cabins can be booked at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park near Lac La Biche by calling 780-623-8449 and Cypress Hills Provincial Park by calling 403-893-3833.
