Passenger captures what landing at YVR during wildfires looks like (VIDEO)

It’s no secret that the BC wildfires have left much of the province covered in a thick veil of smoke.

Even at 25,000 ft. in the air, visibility is obscured and copious amounts of haze block out what would be an otherwise clear blue sky.

Jaime Stein, Chief Client Officer (CCO) at ICUC, recently shared what an airplane’s descent into the YVR airport looks like.

The approach and landing, normally much brighter and filled with colour, made the City of Vancouver look like a ghost town.

Just for comparison, here’s what the descent into YVR Airport normally looks like.

Comparing images side by side reveals a startling and almost unrecognizable difference.

Several days ago, Westjet and Air Canada made the announcement to offer accommodations for passengers affected by the wildfires in BC.

YVR Airport has announced that operations at the facility are running as scheduled, however, those flying within the province are advised to check with their airlines for last-minute updates.

A jumbo jet-sized thank you to firefighters and all the people helping the province through #BCWidlfires and keeping us all safe. Operations are normal at YVR but if you are flying within the province make sure you check with your airline for latest flight status.
