There must be something in the water, as all of a sudden, it seems like Calgary is bursting at the seams with new cafes.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a wealth of new cafe news, from expansions of existing Calgary favourites to brand-new concepts gearing up to open in the city, each with its own unique offerings.

Whether you fancy yourself as a coffee connoisseur or you’re simply looking for a new spot to get your caffeine fix, here are all of the new coffee shops and cafes that have opened or are opening very soon in Calgary.

CeCe’s Coffee

This brand-new coffee shop concept has been brought to life by the team behind none other than Crave Cupcakes, so for those looking for the ultimate coffee and sweet treat combo, this is for you.

The light and airy space is beautifully designed and a natural extension of the beloved cupcake brand. Serving espresso-based drinks using Monogram Coffee, matcha, chai, and so much more, the Hillhurst spot is a must-visit.

Monogram Coffee – Britannia

As a fan favourite for Calgary’s coffee lovers, its new Britannia flagship is calling. Much larger than its previous location next door, Monogram’s new digs are obviously a haven for good coffee.

The new outpost also has its own bakery and a full kitchen, serving up brunch. Exclusive dishes to Britannia include the brioche French toast with cardamom custard and its Madame Monogram, featuring a croissant bun stacked with marinated chicken, tomato jam, béchamel, and Gouda.

Opening soon

Uncommon Drip

Among the new concepts making their way to Calgary is the intriguing Uncommon Drip, situated just beside the now-closed Diner Deluxe on Edmonton Trail.

Touted as a “not so common coffee and wood-fired baked sandwich shop,” the spot is expected to open this September.

Paradigm Spark

After ending its coffee service at Butter Block Cafe late last year, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the next move from Paradigm Spark. It looks as though the wait is almost over, as the coffee spot teased that its new location is gearing up to open in September.

As well as a cafe, the space will also include a training room, roasting room and a shared office for collaborations with fellow coffee professionals.

Canela Vegan Bakery & Cafe – Bridgeland

While the loss of Mondays Plant Cafe was felt by many in the community, luckily, the Bridgeland space will be in good hands with Canela opening its second outpost there.

For those following plant-based diets, Canela is a haven for vegan goods with everything from pastries, cakes, and cookies to savoury snacks. Each of which is made without using any animal products or by-products.

Alforno

Since opening in 2015, Alforno, part of the Teatro Group, has become a staple in the city for its laid-back vibes, inspired by Italian café culture.

The fan favourite will be opening its doors at its newest location this fall, where guests will be able to get their hands on coffee and pastries.
