One of Calgary's most popular cafes is opening a new location next month

The saying goes that when one door closes, another opens, and that certainly rings true in Calgary’s dining scene.
Many were sad to hear that Mondays Plant Cafe, a Bridgeland institution, would be closing its doors this month. But now, we finally have word about what will become of the space, and it’s excellent news for the city’s plant-based community.
The extremely popular Canela Vegan Bakery & Cafe has revealed it will be setting up shop at 208 4th St. NE in September, marking its second YYC outpost.

“We are so excited to announce that the place that we call Mondays will now be Canela starting in September,” the team said in an Instagram post.
The locally owned cafe concept, which began as a farmers market business, opened in Inglewood in 2021. The spot offers an enormous selection of vegan goods such as pastries, cakes, cookies, savoury treats, and more, all made without any animal products or by-products.
Canela also shared their love for Mondays owners Megan Pope and Ali Magee, for becoming a “staple in the vegan community.”
“While we are saying goodbye to a beloved establishment, we hope to carry the torch and become a staple in the Bridgeland community.
The new outpost is slated to open around Sept. 19, so watch this space.
