A town in British Columbia has set yet another new record for the hottest temperature ever seen in Canada.

According to Environment Canada, Lytton, BC, saw a high of 47.5Ā°C on June 28 — marking a new highest temperature ever recorded across Canada.

As for the previous record, well, it didn’t last very long. It was actually set by Lytton, BC, less than 24 hours ago. On June 27, the town recorded a high of 46.6Ā°C.

Before that, the previous record was set on July 5, 1937, when Yellow Grass and Midale, Saskatchewan, reached a simultaneous high of 45.0Ā°C.

“This is a preliminary number as heating may continue for another hour,” says Environment Canada.

Since Friday, most of British Columbia has been under a heat warning as a ā€œdangerous, long-durationā€ heat wave envelops the province.

The extreme temperatures are being driven by a ā€œheat domeā€ ā€” a phenomenon usually reserved for the deserts of the southwestern US.

Fifty-four temperature recordsĀ were broken on Saturday alone, with some areas set toĀ feel like 50Ā°CĀ before the province begins to cool down.
