Two Calgary spots are finalists for Air Canada's Best New Restaurants for 2025

Air Canada has revealed the finalists for its annual list of Canada’s best new restaurants, and there is some impressive Calgary representation.

Calgary’s DOPO and Bar Rocca, which opened late last year, have secured a spot as finalists on the Best New Restaurants 2025 list, with a chance of scoring a place on the coveted top 10 list to be revealed this fall.

Both DOPO and Bar Rocca have been brought to life by the team behind the acclaimed D.O.P. restaurant, which closed its doors on 1st Street SW last year.

DOPO, the reimagined concept, opened in Marda Loop late last year, and following in its predecessor’s footsteps, offers delicious Italian cuisine, largely inspired by those from owner Tony Migliarese’s mother, Rose, in collaboration with Chef David Leeder.

Offering a seasonal menu, the small and intimate space has already become a favourite for Calgarians, as well as receiving acclaim from across Canada. The spot recently came in at 56 on a list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants.

Its sister concept, Bar Rocca (located in the same Marda Loop complex), is just as impressive. The spot offers cocktails, wines, and lighter snacks such as deviled eggs, tartare, and much more.
