Father-son duo to open a new Asian-inspired restaurant in Calgary

Family is at the heart of a new Calgary restaurant set to open next month.
IBU, a new restaurant offering Asian-inspired contemporary cuisine, is slated to open in South Calgary in October, just across the street from Our Daily Brett.
Behind the project is father-son duo Jeff and Joel Matthews, two experienced chefs who aim to blend culinary traditions of the past and reimagine them.
After starting his culinary career in Calgary, Jeff went on to cook in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australia, while Joel began cooking in Bali and Australia.
“Together we craft dishes that marry global flavours with vibrant Asian influences reflecting our 30 years in Asia,” the website reads.
The name IBU, which means “mother” in Indonesian, represents warmth, community, and shared experiences.
While the spot has yet to share its menu, expect creative dishes with Asian inspiration ranging from small plates to mains. Those looking to get experimental can also try a multi-course tasting menu experience at its Chef’s Table.
In addition to an open kitchen where guests can take in the action, the restaurant will also feature a dog-friendly patio.
An official opening date for IBU hasn’t been revealed yet, but it’s certainly one to watch.
