Metro Vancouver doughnut shop announces closure and people are upset

After a seven-year run, Yum Gourmet Donuts in New Westminster has announced it will be closing the doors to its current storefront this year.

“This decision did not come lightly. It’s something we have been going back and forth for months. Our lease is up and unfortunately our space just isn’t working for us anymore. We just couldn’t sign another long term lease and continue on there,” wrote Yum.

However, the team did share that it is actively looking for a new location and will update folks on Instagram if it finds one.

Yum was best known for its loaded, small-batch gourmet doughnuts as well as its vegan varieties and giant birthday cake doughnuts.

“We want to thank all of you for your continued support. We have loved getting to know all of you, and being a part of your special occasions and of watching your children grow up in front of us. We have always said we have the best customers, and we truly mean it,” added Yum, also shouting out its neighbours Capital City Arcade, Gino’s Restaurant, and Russell Prosthetics.

“Finally, we hope that you will come in and see us between now and October 10th. We promise the same amazing service, with the same amazing donuts. We have always believed in quality over quantity and we will continue that practice until the end,” concluded the doughnut shop.

Many took to the comments to share how much they will miss Yum.

“Oh, so sad to hear this. I have fond memories of the loaded apple fritter after a @capcityarcade session across the street,” wrote one person on Instagram.

Sad to see you go 😢 The best donuts in the lower mainland! Hope to see you again in another location soon,” added another.

“You have been a gift to New Westminster and beyond. I will follow you anywhere and so will other loyal customers, right everyone??” shared a third.

Yum’s final day of operation will be Oct. 10.
