Whitecaps tease new jersey design with a nod to the Vancouver 86ers
The Vancouver Whitecaps are getting ready to introduce a new kit.
The club teased a new look via social media on Thursday, with Thomas Müller posing in a blue and gold jersey. The Adidas design will be revealed in full on Aug. 13.

The “Vancouver” logo on the back of Müller’s jacket also appeared on the front of the jersey seen in images that leaked online last month. Interesting that those jerseys didn’t include the Whitecaps’ title sponsor, Telus.

It’s expected that the new jersey will be part of a third kit, rather than replacing the existing home and away uniforms. The Whitecaps introduced a new blue “coastal” kit in February, and “the peak” white kit last year.
The Vancouver 86ers won four straight CSL championships from 1988 to 1991 (Vancouver 86ers)
This new kit appears to be a nod to the Vancouver 86ers, which is what the club was called for 14 years before returning to the Whitecaps brand in 2001. It’s been nearly 40 years since the 86ers brought pro soccer back to Vancouver along with the introduction of the Canadian Soccer League in 1987.
The original Vancouver Whitecaps team played in the North American Soccer League from 1974 to 1984, before the league folded in 1985.
