Scoring big goals seems to run in the family for Henrik Sedin.
Vancouver Canucks fans are no strangers to seeing a Sedin come up in the clutch, and it seems like nothing has changed with Henrik’s son Valter. The 19-year-old has been competing for Canada at the 2026 Concacaf U20 Championship in Mexico over the past week, and came up huge in Saturday’s match against Jamaica.
Canada was trying to hold onto top spot in Group C before the knockout stage and needed either a victory or draw over Jamaica to do so. The Jamaicans opened the scoring, but Sedin helped the Canadians tie things up, scoring his first-ever international goal in the 55th minute.
It was a strike from the top of the box that got deflected, fooling the Jamaican keeper.

Canada would grab a late lead after a penalty from Marius Aiyenero in the 79th minute, but Jamaica would draw even again in injury time for a final score of 2-2. The draw cemented Canada as the Group C winners, which means they will face a rematch with Jamaica in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The stakes are high for that match. A victory means Canada will advance to the semifinal and officially clinch a spot for the 2027 FIFA U20 World Cup next year. If the Canadians can find a way to win the tournament, they will also book their ticket to the L.A. 2028 Summer Olympics.
Though Sedin’s parents are Swedish, he was born and raised in Vancouver during his father’s time with the Canucks. He joined the Whitecaps FC pre-academy in 2020 and graduated to the Whitecaps FC academy in 2023, before eventually signing overseas with a U19 Swedish club last year.

Sedin competed with the Canadian U20 men’s team earlier this year at the 2026 Maurice Revello Tournament in France.
His progression through the ranks seems to be going smoothly so far, and one wonders if an eventual spot on the Canadian Olympic squad is in the cards over the next little while.
