A new potential ownership group has reportedly stepped forward and put forth an offer to purchase the Vancouver Whitecaps.
There had been some concern earlier this year that the Whitecaps, who have been for sale since late 2024, could be purchased and relocated. Thankfully, things have cooled down on that front, as optimism has grown that they will be able to remain in Vancouver.
That is even more promising today, as Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy has reported on X that former Canucks and Grizzlies owner Arthur Griffiths is heading a group that has put in a formal offer to purchase the Whitecaps.

Griffiths, who resides in Yaletown, took full operational control of the Canucks in 1988 before selling his remaining stake in late 1996 and 1997. He first joined executive leadership with the organization in 1981.
Griffiths, who owned the Grizzlies for a three-year period, was responsible for landing the expansion team in 1994. Additionally, he played a big role in Vancouver serving as the host for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
While the report of Griffiths and his camp putting forth an offer to purchase the Whitecaps is new, his name has been discussed as a potential buyer for months. It was reported back in May that the 69-year-old had interest in being a part of the next Whitecaps ownership group.
Murphy’s update on Friday morning gives further proof that Griffiths does have serious interest, which would be extremely welcome news for Whitecaps fans.
What comes of this offer remains to be seen, though there are certainly more stories to come from it in the coming days and weeks.
