What: Lighting up Vancouver’s English Bay, Jim Deva Plaza, and šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square, formerly known as the North Plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Lumiere is a series of light art installations, performances and community building initiatives. This year, Lumiere will feature 17 public artworks created by local and international artists.

Vin Van Pop-up Wine Dinner

This multi-course long table dinner is focused on the wonderful wines of Canada. The dinner will take place in a unique warehouse space in Mount Pleasant and will showcase Canadian wines paired with Canadian-inspired dishes created by Vancouver chefs Michael Varga and Eugene Cheng. Tickets include a welcome cocktail, four courses, and all wine pairings.

The 22nd Annual Vancouver Asian Film Festival

What: The highly-anticipated, four-day event celebrates Asian culture and diversity in film. This year’s theme is “Infusian,” putting the spotlight upon artists, agitators, thinkers, and innovators who help change the lives of contemporary Canadians. The VAFF lineup boasts 13 film programs and three industry panels, including the public premiere of the “We Heart Canada + Japan 90” film project, as well as 35 feature-length and short films of all genres. 12 Canadian premieres, five world premieres, and six local premieres are included in the wide range of movies.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (With Geekenders Shadowcast)

What: Get ready to do the Time Warp with The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Rio Theatre. The film follows two young lovers, Brad and Janet, who set out to visit their old teacher. On the way there, their car breaks down and they’re forced to walk to a creepy castle up the road to find a phone. Instead of finding a phone, they find a mad scientist/”sweet transvestite from Transylvania,” who has chosen to bring his own creation to life. What’s going to make the event even better is that members of Vancouver’s Geekenders will be on hand to guide the audience through this live show.

A Christmas Story: The Musical

What: Align Entertainment presents the delightful and hilarious holiday sensation, A Christmas Story: The Musical, based on the popular 1983 film of the same name. Nominated for three Tony Awards in 2013, the musical is a classic and heartfelt tale featuring a tuneful score from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (creators of La La Land and The Greatest Showman).

The Light Festival

What: The City of Surrey and Telus are inviting everyone to the Light Festival at Bear Creek Park this fall. Visitors can experience a mesmerizing show of illuminated trees, eye-catching displays, and sparkling lights throughout an ever-changing garden of colour. On opening and closing night, guests will be treated to family-friendly activities at a kid’s zone, food trucks, and roving performers. Tuesday, November 6 will feature Diwali-inspired music, food, and performers, as well as a chance to make your own lanterns at the Surrey Art Gallery. Anyone attending is reminded to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather, as the event will run rain or shine.
