The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is sharing some information about the search of a boat moored in False Creek after it received a report that someone aboard it had allegedly fired a suppressed gun into the water.
According to the VPD, the boat was seized and searched following the gunfire report.
VPD’s Marine Squad and Emergency Response Team boarded the vessel, named Night Shadow, this past Sunday. Officers boarded at around 6 p.m.
Upon entering the boat, police found four individuals aboard, all of whom were subsequently arrested.
VPD says that the Night Shadow was then towed to a secure location before a search warrant was obtained to search the vessel. Upon searching the boat, police found a chrome handgun, multiple gun parts, a large extended magazine, and several suppressors.
Guns and gun parts weren’t the only thing police found, however.
VPD said that several baggies of “suspected” crystal meth and fentanyl were found, along with large bags of cutting agents, dyes, scales, and drug cooking utensils.
“The investigation continues, and charges are pending,” VPD added.
This isn’t the first time that boats in False Creek have come under scrutiny, and we’ve published several stories in the past about disturbances on the water.
In 2022, we shared that there were around 100 illegal or decrepit boats that were anchored in False Creek.
We also learned in 2022 that the City of Vancouver had a whole file on the situation. In 2023, there were some claims about dogs in False Creek, with some reporting that on one vessel, dogs were never allowed to leave.
To legally anchor in False Creek, boaters must obtain a free permit through the City of Vancouver. Boaters can anchor for 14 of 30 days in the summer and for 21 of 40 days in the winter. Once that period ends, boaters need to leave the creek.
