Vancouver International Airport named North America's best airport for 10th consecutive year
For 10 consecutive years, Vancouver International Airport has been the best airport in North America.
In a ceremony held in London earlier today, YVR picked up Skytrax’s award for North America’s best airport, which is the 10th straight time Canada’s second largest airport has won the award.

Additionally, overall, YVR is ranked the 17th best airport in the world, which represents a drop from 14th place in 2018.
Earlier in the decade, YVR was ranked within the top 10 — up with airports such as Singapore Changi Airport and Hong Kong International Airport — but growing global competition from new and improved airports has bumped the Canadian airport down a few spots in recent years.
YVR’s global ranking is just ahead of Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Brisbane Airport.
Changi is ranked as the world’s best airport, followed by Tokyo Haneda Airport, Seoul Incheon Airport, Doha Homad Airport, and Hong Kong.
Only two other Canadian airports were ranked in the top 100; Toronto Pearson International Airport was ranked 50th (a big drop from 41st in 2018), and Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport was 62nd (up from 67th in 2018).
Skyrax’s airport rankings are based on passenger comfort and airport design.
Upcoming major improvements to YVR, including a multi-billion dollar terminal building expansion with new ample new well-designed passenger amenities and spaces, as well as plans for over 20 new dining options — such as Hawksworth Kitchen, Steamworks Bar & Restaurant, Whistler Brewing Lodge, and Red Truck Beer Stop — could solidify the airport’s rankings for years to come.
The annual Skytrax rankings are deemed by some as the most prestigious and recognized awards in the aviation industry. Besides ranking airports overall, it also surveys other aviation industry aspects such as analyzes airlines, airline lounges, airport hotels, airport dining, airport shopping, and airport staff.
Today, Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel — attached to the YVR terminal building in the transborder wing — also won a consecutive award for being the best airport hotel in North America.
Additionally, YVR staff were also ranked the second best in North America, just after Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and ahead of Denver International Airport.
Vancouver Airport Authority officials are planning a special celebration on April 1 to mark the airport’s 10th consecutive ‘Best Airport in North America’ accolade.
