Tuesday, July 2
What: One of the most popular summertime events in the city is back as free outdoor movies return to Stanley Park this summer. The Evo Summer Cinema Series features a four-story inflatable movie screen showing film classics and modern blockbusters. Be there before dusk and take part in the many fun pre-show activities, including games, prizes, and giveaways, as well as the weekly offering of food truck fare and classic movie treats.
Please bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs and, since it’s a family-friendly event, smoking or alcohol is not permitted. Moviegoers are encouraged to walk, take transit, or bike to Stanley Park for the shows – there will be a bike valet service offered on site each night too.

What: Three-time Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum selling artists Pentatonix are stopping by Vancouver this summer. Pentatonix consists of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee, and are characterized by their pop-style arrangements with vocal harmonies — the group is widely known for their covers of popular songs. The group’s Youtube channel currently has over 16 million subscribers and 3.7 billion views. The group will be supported by special guest Rachel Platten, American singer-songwriter widely known for her hit single, “Fight Song.”

What: Mat Collective’s 2019 outdoor summer yoga series features free classes at Kits Beach, on Main Street and in East Van throughout the week. In addition, there will be special events held throughout the summer.

What: There are more than a dozen vendors this year at Westbank’s second annual Shipping Container Summer Pop-Up Series and the roster includes notable brands in food, health, and fashion. The container will showcase one vendor at a time and hours will vary by retailer, so be sure to check their social channels and get all the details.

What: Chali-Rosso Art Gallery’s annual Definitely Dali exhibition is back for the summer. Enjoy original artwork by the great Spanish Surrealist master, every single day until the end of September. Plus visit the monumental Salvador Dali sculptures they have positioned in the two public, outdoor spaces: Dalinian Dancer at the corner of Alberni and Thurlow St., and Space Venus at LOT 19, at the foot of Hornby St. 2 W. Hastings.

Where: Chali-Rosso Art Gallery – 549 Howe Street, Vancouver
What: This unique exhibition is focused on the art of Alberto Giacometti, renowned in the twentieth century for his sculpture, painting, drawing and design. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to examine the breadth of his practice and to see Giacometti’s place among his contemporaries in Paris and London in the post-war period.
In addition to Giacometti, featured artists include Francis Bacon, César, Lynn Chadwick, Jean Dubuffet, Jean Fautrier, Elisabeth Frink, Henri Michaux, Eduardo Paolozzi, Isabel Rawsthorne, Man Ray, Germaine Richier, Jean-Paul Riopelle and William Turnbull, among others.

What: Vancouver’s free outdoor movie series in downtown at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza) is returning this summer. Fresh Air Cinema’s large four-storey inflatable screen will pop up, creating the perfect urban environment to take in a flick surrounded by the concrete jungle — just be sure to bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets.
Hosted by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, each night will have special activations for the public to enjoy, including photo booths, light displays, food trucks, and more.

What: The Drive-In Movie Series returns to Lansdowne Centre for its fourth year, presented by Fresh Air Cinema. Enjoy classic, family-friendly, and even some of the latest hits on an outdoor screen. Take a drive and cuddle up, or bring a blanket and lawn chair and settle in. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis (first 200 vehicles), and the movie audio will be broadcast over FM radio. Keep in mind that this is a family-friendly event, so smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited.

What: The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) has announced the return of their ever-popular Film Concert Series. This time around, they’ll be presenting a screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, with Oscar-winning composer John Williams’ musical score performed live to the audience. The performance will include some of the most iconic pieces in the Star Wars repertoire, including the Star Wars main theme, The Imperial March, The Battle in the Snow, and The City in the Clouds.

What: Through its summer Walking Tour Program, the Architectural Institute of BC offers stunning architectural perspectives of six Vancouver neighbourhoods. Sites include Chinatown, Gastown, Yaletown, Downtown, West End and Strathcona, the first neighbourhood in Vancouver. For locals and tourist alike, the tours are a fun and engaging way to learn more about the architecture and history of Vancouver. A distance of three kilometres is covered over a period of two hours – comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Tours are held rain or shine.

What: Four evenings of cocktails and costumes in an annual fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Started in 2009 here in Vancouver, Lawn Summer Nights (LSN) now holds events in eighteen cities across the country and has raised over $3.4 million. The Vancouver team slots have already sold out, but guests can join in on the fun with a social ticket and see why LSN continues to be a growing force of fundraising and fun.

What: Inspired by the looks and culture of Argentina and Spain, attendees will enjoy an evening of authentic Latin dance, with performances from Flamenco Rosario, Fabianna Katz, Argentine Tango Lab, Toque Flamenco, and Vancouver Flamenco Collective. The main act, presented by Flamenco Rosario, incorporates both traditional and contemporary styles of flamenco, bringing passion, drama, and heat to the stage. VIP guests will also enjoy an evening of wine tasting.
This event is part of Carnaval Del Sol, which is the biggest Latin Festival in the Pacific Northwest. The festival is two weeks of live music, arts, and food, in celebration of Latin American culture.

Culinary magician Vikram Vij invites some of Vancouver’s top chefs to be inspired by the festival’s theme and take you on a gastronomic journey around the world.
