Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival 2019

What: Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this month with seven days of top tap talent. The festival features local and international tap dance artists in premiere performances, workshops and intensives, and community events. There will also be a 20th Anniversary Gala at The Orpheum Annex on August 31. Presented by Vancouver Tap Dance Society.

lululemon Summer Yoga Series at False Creek 2019

What: lululemon’s popular Summer Yoga Series is returning to Vancouver for another summer. Participants of any age or skill level will be able to take part in their classes at the recently-opened Concord Community Park in False Creek. Each session, which takes place every Monday at 6 pm through the end of August, will be held on the scenic seawall at the Northeast False Creek area. In addition to the free yoga classes, the community park space also features beach volleyball, half-court basketball, ping-pong, and pickup floor hockey games designated for youth in the community.

Vancouver Canadians vs Salem-Keizer Volcanoes

What: Vancouver Canadians hit the field vs Salem-Keizer Volcanoes at MIIB at Nat Bailey Stadium. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative 2019 Vancouver Canadians team photo, presented by Van Houtte Coffee.

AIBC Summer Architectural Walking Tours

What: Through its summer Walking Tour Program, the Architectural Institute of BC offers stunning architectural perspectives of six Vancouver neighbourhoods. Sites include Chinatown, Gastown, Yaletown, Downtown, West End, and Strathcona, the first neighbourhood in Vancouver. For locals and tourist alike, the tours are a fun and engaging way to learn more about the architecture and history of Vancouver. A distance of 3 km is covered over a period of two hours – comfortable walking shoes are suggested. The Fair at the PNE

Vancouver Improv Fight Club: Tag Team Turmoil

What: Three epic improv duos will face off at Vancouver Improv Fight Club at Cafe Deux Soleils. Through comedy games, referee challenges, and a VIFC jam, the Hardcore Hilarity champion will be crowned. The winner of the first half will also get to choose the stipulation in the second half of the show.

Chilliwack Corn Maze

What: This year, the creators of the Chilliwack Corn Maze are paying special tribute to the Canucks 50th anniversary season, with a Canuck-themed maze. In addition to the maze, the farm also features other attractions such as a pumpkin patch, pedal carts, a “giant jumping pillow,” tractor rides, and an indoor hay-bale maze.

From now until September 2, the maze is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11 am to 9 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 11 am to 6 pm. From September 3 to September 30, the maze is open Thursdays from 5 pm to 9 pm, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 am to 9 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 11 am to 6 pm. From October 1 to October 31, the attraction is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11 am to 9 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 11 am to 6 pm.

What: The 2019 Aritzia Warehouse Sale takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from Wednesday, August 28 to Monday, September 2. What: The Drive-In Movie Series returns to Lansdowne Centre for its fourth year, presented by Fresh Air Cinema. Enjoy Inception on August 28 on the outdoor screen. Take a drive and cuddle up, or bring a blanket and lawn chair and settle in. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis (first 200 vehicles), and the movie audio will be broadcast over FM radio. Jak Knight and Zack Fox

What: Jak Knight is an LA-based comedian, writer, and actor whose stand-up special can currently be streamed on Netflix. Zack Fox has written for The Eric Andre Show, and co-wrote and acted in Flying Lotus’ horror-comedy “Kuso,” which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. What: BC’s own Carly Rae Jepsen has announced a new Canadian tour for this summer, which she will kick off by playing two back-to-back shows in Vancouver. Jepsen’s latest tour announcement comes on the heels of the release of Jepsen’s fourth album Dedicated, which includes the singles “Party For One,” “Now That I Found You,” “Julien,” and “Too Much.” Jepsen is best known for her hit “Call Me Maybe,” which climbed to #1 on the iTunes Singles charts in over 47 countries, has sold over 20 million singles worldwide and is certified Diamond in the United States.

Gastown Thursday Nights

What: The new Gastown Thursday Nights (GTN) series is bringing a revolving cast of art installations, in-store-events, shopping, and dining discounts to Vancouver’s most historic neighbourhood. Starting at 5 pm on the last Thursday night of each summer month, participating Gastown stores will be filled with a ton of fantastic and free surprises including a live art creation, pop-up tattoo artist, belly dancer, Thai dance class, kissing booth, boot toss, Dj’s, musicians, beverages, food, and more. The fun and hot deals will run until around 9 pm, but make sure to come early.

Bike the Dyke

What: What better way to end summer than by enjoying the breathtaking waterfront trails along the Fraser River? Bike the Dyke—a signature BC experience on Richmond’s Dyke Trails—provides the perfect opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts of any skill level to uncover a truly authentic, pacific experience. Time: Biking one direction with no breaks takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. However, making stops along the way to make it a full day experience is recommended
Where: Bike the Dyke starts about 150 meters west of the Aberdeen Canada Line Station. You can park nearby, bring your own bike along the Canada Line, or rent from one of many U-bicycle stations.

Waterfront Cinema at Canada Place – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

What: During Waterfront Cinema on August 29, a large inflatable screen will pop up to screen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, creating the perfect environment to take in a flick under the stars, all with the North Shore mountains in the background. To give your night two thumbs up, do yourself a favour and bring a lawn chair (or you’ll be sitting on the hard ground) and jackets and/or blankets (it gets cold). What: PNE Fairgoers will enjoy sensational performances this year including Pop, Rock, Country, and R&B as well as throwback 80s and 90s concerts. The Summer Night Concerts will run every evening that the Fair is open.

Reframed: Painting and Collage by Tiko Kerr

What: Reframed features new work by Tiko Kerr. Throughout his more than 30-year-long career, Kerr has explored the concept of perception through painting. His most recent works continue along this line of inquiry while drawing on images from art history and popular culture to explore the contemporary moment of widespread unrest and trauma.

WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020

What: Fresh off winning a Silver Medal at the Pan Am Games, the Canadian Women’s National Softball Team is looking to clinch one of two available berths for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Eleven teams from North, Central, and South America will participate in the tournament, with the top three National Teams in each group advancing to a Super Round. The top two National Teams in the tournament final standings will gain a spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
