Indie pop band The Marías reveal their top Vancouver restaurants

It’s no secret that Vancouver is home to plenty of great restaurants. There are so many, in fact, that even famous actors and musicians have taken notice. During her last visit to Vancouver in 2024, musician Billie Eilish created a list on Google Maps featuring some of her favourite plant-based spots in the city. Now, another band has followed suit.

American indie pop band The Marías, who are playing two shows on July 25 and 26 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, created a list of their “Dream Places” on Google Maps. This list comprises the band’s favourite farm-to-table restaurants, secret gardens, and vintage vaults.

The first restaurant on the band’s list is WestOak, located in Yaletown at 1035 Mainland St. This trendy spot serves up a casual fine-dining experience featuring locally sourced products. Expect menu items like certified organic steaks that are sourced locally from Blue Goose Cattle Company (where livestock is humanely treated and raised with no added hormones or antibiotics) and Oceanwise seafood products that are delivered fresh daily. Plus, its drink program is nothing to sneeze at either.

Next on the list was Gary’s, a Bib Gourmand Michelin restaurant at 1485 W 12th Ave. in Vancouver.

Gary’s first opened in October 2023 and serves a menu that co-owner Bailey Hayward previously told Dished is inspired by the “simplicity of modern British cuisine and classic French technique, but there are no limits.”

Expect upscale casual vibes with plenty of standout bites, including a can’t-miss chef’s tasting menu.

As for the final restaurant on the list, The Marías gave a shoutout to chef David Hawksworth’s Nightingale, which received accolades such as being named the best farm-to-table restaurant in Canada in 2019.

Nightingale is best known for its buttermilk-fried chicken, alongside wood-fired pizzas, salads, and a stellar drink program.

But it wasn’t just restaurants that The Marías shouted out. Other favourite spots on the list included the Bloedel Conservatory, F as in Frank Vintage Clothing, and Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.

With the band currently in Vancouver for their two shows, it’s likely you may run into them at one of these spots.
