Burnaby Tesla ‘N’ driver mocked by police and public after sidewalk snafu
A routine coffee run to Starbucks has ended in a huge fine and online derision for a Tesla ‘N’ driver in Burnaby.
Photos posted by Burnaby RCMP on Tuesday, Sept. 1 show a Tesla Model 3 completely on the sidewalk near Holdom SkyTrain Station.
According to police, the driver was picking up coffee, but chose the wrong place to park while doing so.
Is coffee important?
Yes, for many.
Is coffee “parking on a sidewalk important”?
No!

“This was grounds for $190 worth of fines,” said Burnaby RCMP on X and Facebook. “That’s a rich brew!”
According to the BC Motor Vehicle Act, “A driver must not drive on a sidewalk, walkway or boulevard, except when entering or leaving a driveway or lane or when entering or leaving land adjacent to a highway, or by permission granted under a bylaw.”
The City of Vancouver’s driving bylaws are similar, as drivers are not permitted to stop or park on sidewalks or sidewalk crossings.

One commenter on the photo of the ‘N’ driver’s park job simply said, “That’s very Tesla.”
Another person added, “Every morning there are people parking wherever to go into that Starbucks, even blocking part of the road.”

This isn’t the only Tesla incident in Metro Vancouver that caused chaos on the sidewalks.
A Tesla Cybertruck sparked online conversation after a photo showed the aluminum grey electric vehicle completely on a public walkway near Granville Island.

It happened just days after a Cybertruck was spotted on a pedestrian walkway in Edmonton, causing frustration for passersby.
It’s not all Teslas, though, as a driver in Vancouver turned some heads earlier this year after they took a wrong turn and ended up driving along the seawall.
Vlad Bohachski spotted the incident in the afternoon near Sunset Beach in the city’s west end.

Footage captured by Bohachski shows a red sedan completing a three-point turn to head east on the seawall near ongoing construction at the beach.
Some pedestrians gawked at the car as it slowly drove forward, while others did not look terribly surprised by the sight.
One passerby stepped in front of the vehicle to make it stop, gesturing that the car should get out of their way.
