Construction closing major Highway 1 entrance overnight for two weeks
Work to widen Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley continues to progress this summer, and drivers are being notified that a new traffic-pattern change may impact overnight commutes starting as early as Monday evening.
The Government of B.C. announced that overnight traffic-pattern changes are planned for Highway 1 at Mount Lehman Road in Abbotsford, as part of the widening and upgrade of the highway through the Lower Mainland.
Drivers are warned that westbound traffic will temporarily move to the Mount Lehman exit lane during the detour.
The westbound on-ramp to Highway 1 from Fraser Highway will be closed beginning on Monday, Aug. 31 until Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.
Drivers will be detoured via the Mount Lehman Road on-ramp from 8:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, as well as 8:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
All other ramps will remain open during the work period.

According to the Ministry, the closures are to allow crews to safely install girders for the expanded Mount Lehman overpass, which is described as a “key component of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program.”
“Drivers are reminded to use caution, obey signage and watch for roadside workers,” added the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, which added that traffic and construction updates are available via DriveBC.
“(They’re also) advised to allow for additional travel time through the area when diversions are underway.”

The latest construction work is part of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said online that the project will improve safety, reliability and capacity between 216th Street in Langley through to Chilliwack.
A wider highway will also enable the Government of B.C. to add improvements like HOV/EV lanes both east and westbound, bus-on-shoulder lanes in each direction, truck climbing lanes, and a truck staging area.
