Chef’s Angus An and Poom Sikarin Sirisupanon from Isaan-style restaurant Sainam are preparing to welcome Chef Andrew Martin of Bangkok’s Somsak for a very special, one-night-only collaborative dinner.

Dubbed “Sabai Sabai Night” (sabai sabai being a common Thai phrase meaning take it easy, enjoy), the two restaurants will be serving up som tum (papaya salad), grilled meats, curries, and more.

“Sainam has enjoyed such a warm welcome to Vancouver’s West End this past year, and we wanted to celebrate by throwing a fun Sabai Sabai Night with a good friend,” said An, founder of Full House Hospitality, which includes Maenam, Longtail Kitchen, Sen Pad Thai, Fat Mao Noodles, and Sainam.Ā “Isaan food is meant to be enjoyed together, with good drinks and good company. It’s wonderful to welcome Andrew home and to have him cook with us and show our guests whatĀ sabai sabaiĀ is all about.ā€

This won’t be the first time Martin has cooked in Vancouver, as the chef was raised in the city and has previously worked with An at Maenam, where he fell in love with Thai food and was inspired to travel and work in Thailand. Since then, he has gained acclaim in his adopted home of Bangkok for his unique and adventurous approach to food with style and techniques inspired from across the globe.

“Coming back to Vancouver, and to Davie Street, to cook with Angus and Poom is something special,”Ā said Martin. “Isaan cuisine is incredibly memorable. The flavours are punchy and the food is made to share with loved ones. That’s what we’ll be serving up on July 14! I’m very excited to bring a little bit of Bangkok back home.”
