Many were heartbroken when the news broke that The Morrissey had closed its doors after an impressive 26 years of operation. But now we know what will be opening in the former home of the bar, and it’s a new location for a popular Mount Pleasant bar.

Richard Saunders from Pinky’s on Main shared with Dished that the team will be opening a new location in the Granville space.

“I’ve worked in and around Granville throughout my career, including bartending at this very location for the Douglas brothers who first opened the Morrissey back in 1999,” said Saunders.

“When the hotel decided they wanted a fresh concept, I am honoured to say they were given my contact and asked me to bring a fresh take. It didn’t take long to know I wanted to be part of it. We’re taking on a venue that’s been woven into Granville’s identity, and we’re doing it with genuine respect for what it’s been. But we’re also launching something entirely new, a concept built for the Granville and West End community.”

Saunders describes Pinky’s as an “in-between space” where anyone can walk in, get an affordable drink or a crafted cocktail, and feel like they belong. Expect a thoughtful cocktail program at entry-level pricing, as well as a kitchen that is open until close.

At Pinky’s current Main Street location, the menu consists of handhelds like a smash burger and beef dip, alongside wings, poutine, and more.

“What excites us most is the chance to define a fresh identity for this corner of Granville. Something fun, something unpretentious, something that respects the neighbourhood’s history while making its own mark,” added Saunders.

Be sure to check back here for an opening date and more details on the new location.
