Vancouver’s Morrissey Pub has shared the sad news that it will be closing its doors after a 26-year run.
“For the last 10 months, I’ve negotiated in good faith for a new lease, hoping to secure another decade for this space,” shared owner Jordan Kendall on Instagram. “Unfortunately, it has become clear that the opportunity to stay was never truly on the table. It is heartbreaking to see 26 years of community history sidelined by behind-the-scenes negotiations and a six-figure price tag just for a seat at the table.”
The Morrissey opened its doors back in 1999, offering patrons a spot to grab a drink and socialize in the Granville Entertainment District.
However, Kendall did share that it’s not all sadness when it comes to the closure.
“The Morrissey’s real legacy lives in the relationships forged, the hazy nights, and the pride of a job well done,” he said.

Many took to the comments to share how much they would miss The Morrissey, as well as sharing memories of those aforementioned “hazy nights.”
“Well there goes another fun venue, fast food places better get licensed quick, cause all the historical, community, unique venues will be no more soon… I’m sorry to hear this,” said one person on Instagram.
“They can close the doors, but they can’t destroy the legacy. The Morrissey is and was so much more than just another bar,” added another.
“Sorry for your loss mate, awful way for all the hard work to be treated. But you really did yourself proud, The Morrissey is a rare legendary place that always had a great atmosphere. I’ll be there to help you celebrate that legacy and we will blow the f*cking doors off the joint on the way out. All the best to you and the team. Thanks for all the happy memories,” shared a third.

The Morrissey’s final day of operation will be Saturday, May 23.
“It has been a great honour and I have loved every minute that I got to carry the torch first lit by the Douglas brothers in 1999,” concluded Kendall. “We aren’t going out quietly! We’re going to celebrate on our way out the door with some great nights ahead. Thank you to our staff, our regulars and everyone that has been a part of our success over the years. I’m looking forward to saying thank you in person right up to our last night, Saturday, May 23. Keep an eye out for some upcoming events.”
