Discount grocery store chain to open new Metro Vancouver location tomorrow
No Frills is preparing to open its latest location in Burnaby, which will also be its first in the city.
The new store, located at 4762 Hastings St., shared that it will be opening its doors on Jan. 29, bright and early at 8 a.m.
“A lot of hard work, long hours, and heart went into turning this space into your new neighbourhood grocer. Huge shoutout to the team for making the magic happen!” shared the store on Instagram.

No Frills advertises itself as a discount supermarket chain owned by Loblaws that, as its name implies, cuts out extra services and “frills” to reduce costs. One of the ways the chain does this is by leaving items in the cardboard boxes rather than unpacking them.
At this location, customers can expect the same goods available at other locations, including produce, baked goods, meats, and more.
“We’re locals, we’re neighbours, and we’re excited to serve the Burnaby Heights community,” added the store.

Mixed opinions on the brand
Many citizens of Burnaby have shared that they’re excited for the new No Frills in the comments of its Instagram posts.
“My favourite place to shop! Can’t wait for the new location and breathe in that new location smell,” shared one user.
“I think you’ll do well in the neighbourhood!” added another.
“Excited to have No Frills in the Heights,” shared a third.
Recently, No Frills was named one of theĀ most trusted brandsĀ in Canada at the annual BrandSpark Most Trusted Awards, which honours the brands Canadians trust the most across consumer products, food and beverage, grocery retail, health & OTC, home goods, petcare, services, and retail and restaurant categories.
The awards reflect the opinions of 45,394 Canadian shoppers who collectively provided 240,033 brand evaluations across 363 categories in the 2026 BrandSpark Canadian Trust Study.
Among the winners, No Frills and Maxi (both discount grocery stores owned by Loblaw) were voted the most trusted grocery stores for low prices nationally and in all regions, including Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic.
However, not all Canadians are happy with the grocery chain. In 2024, Reddit user herec0mesthesun_ shared theirĀ disappointment at the quality of the discounted produceĀ sold at No Frills.
“Even the 50 per cent off in produce isn’t worth it because they’re either mouldy, slimy or just rotten and stinky š¤¢,” they said.
This isn’t the first time shoppers have complained about “rotten” food at Loblaw-owned stores, with others sharing photos of mouldy and expired foodĀ being sold by the grocery giant.
