Here's what's happening to the former home of Miku Richmond

Many were surprised when Miku Richmond quietly closed its doors after just a few months.
Located at the River Rock Casino Resort, the new location was part of the casino’s growing food offerings and joined the likes of the recently opened Gordon Ramsay Steak. The new outpost spanned 4,900 sq. ft. and offered 80 seats.
Here, you could find a variety of Miku favourites, including “iconic” Aburi Oshi Sushi, Ebi Fritters, Iwate Wagyu Carpaccio, Spicy Kaisen Soba Peperoncino, and Saikyo Miso Sablefish.
But now that Miku Richmond has officially ceased operations, the question on everyone’s mind is what will be opening in the former space?
What happened to Miku Richmond
At the time of the closure, Dished reached out to Miku to learn more.
“We understand the Miku-branded restaurant in River Rock Casino Resort has closed. Aburi Restaurants Canada, which is the owner of the ‘Miku’ brand, ceased involvement in this location on or about May 15, 2026. Aburi is not and has never been the lessee of this location,” shared a representative from Aburi Restaurants Canada at the time.
“Aburi remains committed to delivering the exceptional dining experiences our guests have come to expect. We invite you to visit us at our other Vancouver locations and look forward to welcoming you soon.”
Dished also reached out to River Rock Casino Resort, which shared that the lessee was Karakoi.
“Karakoi is an independent third-party licensee that operated the former Miku-branded restaurant at River Rock. Karakoi has ceased operations under the Miku brand, and we understand it intends to reopen in the space under a new restaurant concept,” said Chuck Keeling, executive vice president of Great Canadian Entertainment, which is River Rock’s operator.
Fast forward to today, and we have learnt that the new concept will be handled by a familiar name in the Richmond sushi scene.

The future of the space
The new restaurant is called Koi, and is brought to us by the team behind Kuns Omakase Sushi.
The Kuns team shared on Instagram last week that it would be closing its doors and moving to the River Rock Casino Resort soon under the new name.
“After many years of serving this community, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. Thank you for your unwavering support, kindness, and loyalty throughout the years,” wrote the restaurant. “It has been an honor to welcome you into our restaurant and share so many unforgettable moments together. The memories we created with you will stay with us forever.”
A representative from the restaurant shared with Dished that at its new outpost, it plans to offer a selection of signature sushi and handcrafted Japanese-inspired cocktails with stunning marina views.
“Designed as an all-day dining destination, Koi will place a particular focus on elevated lunch experiences, offering guests a welcoming setting for business meetings, casual gatherings, and everyday dining, while also providing an inviting atmosphere for evening cocktails and dinner overlooking the marina.”
Currently, Koi is completing its final preparations and is expected to open its doors in the coming weeks.
