Sneak peek inside Vancouver's first Dave's Hot Chicken

Jun 17 2026, 8:39 pm

Fans of fried chicken have been eyeing the space of the former Cinema Public House for a while now, ever since it was announced that Dave’s Hot Chicken would be opening its first Vancouver location there. Luckily, the city won’t have to wait too much longer to check out the new chicken purveyor as it is preparing to open this week.

Dished was able to pop in for a quick visit to check out the new digs before opening day.

Inside has the same Dave’s Hot Chicken charm you can find at its other locations, with the walls and ceiling both covered with street art-inspired murals.

The menu here is concise, with the star of the show being chicken tenders and sliders.

There were also other items available, including a selection of “saucy bites,” loaded fries, mac and cheese, and mozzarella sticks.

We stuck with the slider and fries. The slider is dressed relatively simply with kale slaw, pickles, and Dave’s sauce. You’re able to customize your spice level, from anywhere between “not hot” all the way to “Reaper.” We opted for mild, but would have been comfortable increasing the level of spice.

The chicken and fries were crispy, and it came with a side of extra pickles and Dave’s sauce for dipping. Overall, a solid chicken sandwich.

Dave’s Hot Chicken first opened in 2017, in an East Hollywood parking lot, but has since expanded to dozens of locations around the world. Its popularity was cemented when Canadian rapper Drake acquired a stake in the company in 2021.

The concept has several locations across Canada, including Ontario, Edmonton, and Calgary.

Dave’s Hot Chicken Vancouver officially opens its doors on Friday, June 19, but is holding a soft opening on Thursday, June 18, for eager fans itching to try it.
