A Lower Mainland Tesla driver recently tried a unique strategy to get the police to go away, but it ended with a lengthy driving ban.
According to Mission RCMP, an officer was on patrol just after 1 a.m. on July 1 when he came across a Tesla stopped partially in the travel lane on London Avenue, right before the Highway 11 on-ramp.
The RCMP officer spoke with the driver, who was described as “slow to respond, had an odour of liquor on his breath, and watery eyes.”

“The officer formed suspicion that the driver was impaired by liquor, and issued a roadside breath demand to him,” said the detachment on a release.
“The driver then rolled up his window, locked the doors, and refused to exit the vehicle.”
Mission RCMP attempted to convince the driver to get out of the Tesla before telling the man that he was under arrest for obstructing a peace officer.
“Police dismantled and removed the driver’s window, unlocked the doors, and removed the driver from the vehicle, despite his efforts to bring the steering wheel with him,” added the detachment in a statement.
A photo posted online shows the Tesla’s window smashed and nearly falling out of the door of the vehicle.

Commenters on the Mission RCMP social media announcement about the incident were incredulous at the actions of the Tesla driver.
“Grabbing the steering wheel feels like something a child would try,” said one person.
“Damn it, he stole my idea. Now I have to think of something else,” added another.
“Foolish man, glad he was taken off the road,” shared a third commenter.
Mission RCMP announced that the 51-year-old failed breath tests on two different approved screening devices, and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day impound.
“He will also need to order a new window for his Tesla,” the detachment added.
We’ve seen many stories about Tesla drivers being at the centre of various accidents or other incidents, but the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is expressing gratitude for one after a dangerous situation.
According to the VPD, the driver of a stolen Dodge Charger crashed into two vehicles but was unable to escape due to the driver of one of the vehicles, the Tesla driver.
